WHO WILL ‘FIGHT THE CORNER’ OF DRUG-USERS AND THOSE USING DRUGS SERVICES? Hardly the most popular section of society – drug users are always at risk of draconian governments announcing sweeping changes to drug laws as they try to look tough on drugs in the eyes of the world. _ _ _ BECAUSE THE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THIS ARE RELATIVELY LOW. . . . HAVING THE CHANCE TO MEET UP, USE THE INTERNET AND SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES ON A REGULAR BASIS, TO EXCHANGE IDEAS, ORGANISE AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA! We are gathering a wealth of information between us as various drug user organisations apply for funding, set up groups and apply for chatitable status etc - it makes sense to centralise resources, for up and coming activists to access. _ _ _ There are obviously other spin-offs from being involved in something like NUN: it can sometimes give a marginalised group a unified voice – one which may be able to bring about some of the more ‘radical’ changes we’d like to see to drug policy, service provision and law in this country, e.g. access to prescribed heroin outside of trials, allowing MS [and other] medical users to use cannabis unmolested and let Drug Consumption rooms (Like INSITE in Vancouver) flourish.
